All Nations Church renamed their
street Blessing Street over a
weekend in September 2008. Their aim
to – to show the love of God in a
practical way to the whole
community.
The event started at 7am Friday
morning where members of the church
blessed commuters with a simple
breakfast no strings attached – in
one hour 1000 people received their
blessing with many people grateful
of the gesture and thoughtfulness
of the church. By 10 am the second
wave of volunteers arrived and our
Hydration Stations were set up at
each of the traffic lights along the
street – it was one of the hottest
September weekends we have had and
many thousands of drivers and
community users received a cool
refreshing bottle of water form the
church. Many people stopped and
talked about what we were doing,
blessed by the generosity of the
church in action in their community.
Evening time saw the church purchase
all the chips at the local fish and
chip shop, “we know that the fish
and chip shop sees a lot of business
on a Friday night, we thought it
would be great if the church bought
the chips for every person who used
the shop in the night – you buy the
fish and the church will buy the
chips’ this blew people away and
brought a smile to many of the
people in the community.
Saturday morning again saw the
church in action, “we bought all the
Saturday papers from every shop on
the street and gave them away for
free to every person who wanted
them” as you can imagine all the
papers went very quickly and the
community again was received a
practical demonstration of God love,
freely given, freely received. Again
the church mobilised from 10 am to
offer bottles of water on the
street. 1000s of bottles were
distributed free of charge along
with our church magazine, many
people were bowled over by the
church as Blessing Street became a
real event in the community. Members
of the church bought cups of tea and
coffee for people in the tea shops
on the street, and from 2pm All
Nations church members went on a
balloon walk to bless all the
children in he community with a free
gift.
In total All Nations church members
touched 5700 people over a 2 day
period with a practical
demonstration of Gods love.
